The tragic incident happened on the newly rehabilitated Third Mainland Bridge.

The vehicle plunged into the Lagos lagoon.

You see, this incident shows that the government is not the only problem the country is facing.

Before now, people were complaining about the bad condition of the Third Mainland Bridge.

The complain got too much that the state government decided to act.

Now, after taking time to fix the road with the hope that accidents on that route will come to an end or reduce, sadly the case still remains the same.

The tragic incident happened on Wednesday, the day of the Eid-el-Fitri celebration, as Nigerian Muslims mark the end of Ramadan fasting.

Over Speeding

An eyewitness, identified as Akinola Adeniyi, spoke with journalists.

Adeniyi said the incident happened around 11.30 a.m. when the vehicle en-route Iyana-Oworo to the Island suddenly plunged into the Lagoon.

He attributed the cause of the accident to over-speeding by the driver of the ill-fated vehicle.

A source in the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said that its men, Police, and other rescue teams had arrived at the accident scene.

The source added that the agency was still in the process of ascertaining those who were involved in the accident.
