Emefiele will be brought before the presiding judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo, over alleged possession of firearms.

The DSS had accused Emefiele of unlawfully possessing a single-barrel shotgun (Jojeff Magnum 8371) without a license and 123 rounds of live ammunition (cartridges), both violations of the Firearms Laws of the Federation 2004.

Earlier, on July 13, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja ordered the DSS to file charges against the suspended Governor or release him on bail.

This came after the court sat on the case on its jurisdiction to hear the suit filed by Emefiele challenging his arrest and detention by the DSS.

During the hearing, Emefiele’s counsel insisted it was necessary that the DSS filed charges against Emefiele within one week or release him on administrative bail.

Meanwhile, it is unclear why the DSS is not pressing charges on alleged financial recklessness. It had brought forward that allegation after it arrested Mr. Emefiele.

The suspended apex bank chief appears to have more days of litigation against him coming. There are chances that the DSS will press further charges after this particular one on possession of firearms.
