In a bid to rid the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of crimes and criminality, a total of 82 crime-committing suspects have been nabbed.
The suspects were arrested for crimes bothering on vandalism, illegal mining, and other related crimes.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrested 82 suspected vandals and 22 illegal miners.
Arrests were made between August and December.
This was revealed by the Commandant of the Federal Capital (FCT) Command of the NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu, on Thursday in Abuja.
Odumosu said that 20 suspects were arrested in connection with manhole cover theft and vandalism of critical national assets and infrastructure.
He said that five suspects were arrested in September for alleged vandalism of electrical cables.
Also, 14 were arrested for alleged vandalism of other public property, and two for alleged television theft.

Odumosu said 28 suspects were nabbed for alleged railway vandalism and destruction of other critical national assets.

“Eleven were apprehended in October for illegal mining, December recorded a parade of 11 illegal miners and two vandals,” he added.
Also, the security outfit said three Private Guard Companies (PGCs) were sanctioned for various offences.
Furthermore, some of these PGCs have also operated without a licence, while others refuse to renew licences.
The command says it is prepared to intensify efforts in 2024 to clamp down on vandals.
It will also go after illegal PGC operators, and miscreants within the FCT.
