Court To Decide On Ganduje Removal Suit On September 23

Now, the Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled the judgment in a suit seeking the removal of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for September 23, 2024.

During the previous session on July 5, Justice Inyang Ekwo set September 18 as the date for judgment.

However, the case was not listed in the court’s cause list today.

Upon inquiry, it became clear that the judgment was not ready.

Court To Decide Suit Against Ganduje

The court registrar had already communicated with the parties involved, informing them of the new date.

“We have already called the parties on the phone to inform them of the development. The new date is next week, September 23,” the registrar confirmed.

The North Central APC Forum, led by Saleh Zazzaga, filed the suit.

Their counsel, Benjamin Davou, argued that Ganduje’s appointment as Chairman was improper because he does not belong to the North Central geo-political zone.

The plaintiffs, in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/599/2024, requested the court to bar Ganduje from continuing to serve as the APC chairman.

They claimed that the APC’s National Executive Committee violated the party’s constitution by appointing Ganduje, who hails from Kano State in the North West, to replace Sen. Abdullahi Adamu from Nasarawa State in the North Central.

Furthermore, the plaintiffs argued that Ganduje’s appointment contravened Article 31.5(1)(f) of the APC constitution.

They asserted that this action exceeded the powers of the National Executive Committee.

Additionally, they contended that Ganduje is occupying the office of APC chairman illegally due to his geographical origin.

Also, the plaintiffs sought a court order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to recognize any actions taken by the APC.

This includes congresses, primaries, and nominations, since Ganduje assumed the chairmanship on August 3, 2023.

The suit names Ganduje, the APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission as the 1st to 3rd respondents.
