Chris Martin, lead singer of the British rock band Coldplay, had a close call on Sunday, 3 November, after falling through an open trapdoor during the group’s final performance at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.
The incident occurred as Martin, shared stories with the audience about their ongoing Music of the Spheres World Tour. As he stepped back, he suddenly dropped through the open door but quickly regained his footing, much to the crowd’s relief.
“That’s not planned!” he laughed, joking that it was “nearly a YouTube moment” before thanking a nearby crew member for catching him.
Coldplay’s international tour, which began in March 2022, is expected to continue until September 2025, ending with a 10-day series at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Following their Melbourne show, Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, and drummer Will Champion will perform in Sydney to complete the Australian leg before heading to New Zealand.
