Crossdresser Bobrisky, popularly known as the ‘Mummy of Lagos,’ has finally accepted his true gender after many years of portraying himself as a woman.
The courtroom was buzzing with surprise when Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, confessed to being a man.
He is well-known for his bold fashion choices, often dressing in women’s clothing and makeup.
This has sparked debates and controversies about his gender identity. He had claimed to have undergone surgeries to transition into a woman.
However, during a court hearing on Friday, April 12, 2024, things took an unexpected turn.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro, presiding over the case, sentenced Bobrisky to six months in prison without the option of a fine for abusing the naira, Nigeria’s currency.
Before the sentencing, the judge asked Bobrisky directly about his gender. Without hesitation, He replied, “I am a man.”

How overburdened justices have time for such trivia is surprising. We grew up to know a grand uncle with braids and skirts in the 60s (his Ọ̀sányín demands it). He was a high chief & very popular savior with the locals. Only drapes agbádá on the skirt when traveling.
