Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal is set to miss three to four weeks of action after suffering an ankle injury in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Leganes in LaLiga.
The 17-year-old Yamal hurt his ankle in a challenge during the first half, but bravely continued to play until he was replaced in the 75th minute.
Further tests revealed a grade 1 injury to a ligament in Yamal’s right ankle, according to a statement released by Barcelona on Monday.
As a result, the club estimates that Yamal will be sidelined for up to four weeks, forcing him to miss Barcelona’s final game of the year against Atletico Madrid on Saturday.
Yamal’s absence will also be felt in Barcelona’s upcoming Copa del Rey match against fourth-tier Barbastro on January 4, as well as the Spanish Super Cup in Jeddah.
Barcelona’s recent form has been concerning, with the team winning just one of their last six games. This slump has allowed Atletico Madrid to draw level on points, having played one fewer match.
Real Madrid is also lurking just a point behind, with a game in hand on Barcelona.
