Ayra Starr made history at the 2025 MOBO Awards, held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, in Newcastle, England.
The awards celebrate achievements in “music of black origin.” Arya Starr took home two awards: ‘Best International Act’ and ‘Best African Music Act.’
Arya Starr’s win for ‘Best International Act’ marked a milestone, as she became the first African female artiste to receive the prize.
She edged out a star-studded lineup of nominees, including Asake, Tyla, GloRilla, LATTO, Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion, and Tems.
In the ‘Best African Music Act’ category, she defeated a talented pool of artistes, including Asake, BNXN, Ruger, Odumodu BLVCK, REMA, Shallipopi, Tems, Tyla, Uncle Waffles, and King Promise.
Arya Starr’s success comes on the heels of her sophomore album, “The Year I Turned 21,” which has received widespread acclaim.
She has been touring and performing at prestigious festivals like Glastonbury and is set to support Coldplay on their stadium tour this year.
With eight nominations, Arya Starr is also the highest-nominated artiste at the 17th Headies.
