Many expect that the third most important office in Nigeria would be zoned to the South-East because the president-elect is from the South-South and his Vice from the North.
But what we now hear is different from expectations.
The office of the Senate President is the third most important one after the President and the Vice President.
Ahead of the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly in June 2023, many have been eying the office.
It is expected that the office is zoned to the South-East because the president-elect is from the South-South and his Vice from the North.
However, it is not set in stone that it would be done that way. Neither has president-elect Bola Tinubu given any hint as to who may be selected.
Arewa Youths Suggestion
The Arewa Youth Council of Nigeria has called on newly-elected senators to zone the position of the Senate President to the North West.
They claim this should be done in the interest of equity, fairness, and reward for hard work.

Since the president-elect comes from the southern part of the country, it is only right that the position is given to the North West, says the president of the group, Isah Abubakar.
Also, the demand is being made on the fact that the zone gave the All Progressives Congress (APC) the highest vote in the election.
In the just concluded February 25 election, the zone gave the APC 2,884,132 votes which represent about 32% of the total votes gained by the party in the 2023 presidential election.
According to the Arewa youth leader, this should be adequately rewarded for the sake of unity, peace, progress, and national cohesion.
Therefore, the group appealed to the leadership of the APC and other stakeholders to accord maximum support to any of the interested lawmakers from the North-West to emerge as the Senate president.
