APC Says Tinubu Is Not Sponsoring Seyi Makinde For Re-Election In Oyo

The pronouncement of Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25 presidential election, so many things are happening fast.

First, parties have started to form an alliance with opposition parties. They want to increase their reach and stand a better chance of winning. 

Many candidates claim they are now in alliances or that they have endorsements from other parties.

Some of these claims have been confirmed and others denied.

Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, is one of such persons that fall in this category of people claiming endorsements.

He claims he has been endorsed by Tinubu for a second term re-election in the March 11 gubernatorial polls.

There have been reports that Mr Makinde contributed to Tinubu’s victory in the state at the 2023 presidential polls.

However, a spokesperson for the APC has says this clams are the “height of desperation and insincerity”.

APC Only Respects Makinde

The APC sys it only respects Makinde as the sitting governor in the state and is only giving him the respect due to him.

Makinde is a member of the opposing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He won the governorship seat on the platform of the party.

Also, the APC Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, queried the reports that suggest Makinde worked for the part.

People says Makinde delivered all three senatorial and eight House of Representatives seats to the APC in the state.

“Those behind the wicked rumor are some unscrupulous elements whose motive is to mislead the public.

“They want to attract undue sympathy from certain quarters outside the state,” Sadare says.

He notes that “the APC in Oyo State has advised Governor Seyi Makinde and his supporters to stop claiming an endorsement from the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, ahead of the March 11 governorship election”.

According to him, they have refused to listen because “Oyo APC was far ahead of them in terms of preparedness, human resources, and strategy”.

The party is challenging Makinde or any of his agents to present any “evidence of the purported agreement or deal between them and Tinubu”.

Sadare said the only thing they would be able to present was the courtesy visit Tinubu paid to the Agodi Government Secretariat on the day of the presidential rally in the state.

APC Is Sure Of Gubernatorial Victory

The APC is sure of its gubernatorial candidate, Teslim Folarin, winning the March 11 polls in Oyo.

According to Mr Sadare, Teslim would do all that Makinde is unable to do including prompt and full payment of salaries and other entitlements due to the public servants and pensioners.

“He will make life easier for all and sundry,” Sadare believes.

The APC notes that if Makinde had done well in the last four years, “he would not have to be paranoid to face the electorate again as he seeks re-election”.
