Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, Ivory Coast & Nigeria are the favourites to win the AFCON.
With a host of star players on show, it’s shaping up to be one of the most competitive AFCONs ever.
However, based on their current rankings and form, one of the finalist teams are considered AFCON favourites to win the AFCON 2024 tournament:
Nigeria
Nigeria, boasting a rich AFCON history with three titles, navigated their group with a draw against Equatorial Guinea and a crucial win over Ivory Coast.
However, a dominant 2-0 triumph against Cameroon in the last 16 showcased their prowess.
Overcoming Angola in a tight 1-0 quarter-final, the Super Eagles secured a spot in the semi-finals.
Quietly efficient amid rivals’ stumbles, they now face South Africa in pursuit of a fourth AFCON crown.
With a blend of resilience and skill, Nigeria soared past the semi-finals with a penalty win over South Africa and etched another chapter in their illustrious tournament legacy.
Ivory Coast
Despite being tournament favorites, The Elephants faced a shocking setback in the group stage, succumbing to a 4-0 defeat against Equatorial Guinea and parting ways with manager Jean-Louis Gasset.
Rescued by Morocco’s victory over Zambia, they embarked on an improbable journey.
However, they overcame Senegal against the odds, they clinched a dramatic 2-1 win over Mali with 10 men in extra time.
