Ahead of the 2021 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon scheduled for Saturday, 10 April, the Lagos State Government has declared the closure of some roads in the state.
This is part of efforts to ensure a smooth run of the Marathon in the state.
The roads are to remain closed for some hours as the marathon starts at 6:00 am.
Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) therefore urged motorists and commuters to access alternative routes which have been identified below:

“From Apapa-Oshodi Expressway (that is from Mile 2), motorists shall be diverted through BOC Gases/Armed Forces Resettlement Center into the service lane to connect Agege Motor Road.
“Traffic will also be diverted to Town Planning Way through the service lane after descending Oshodi Oke to connect destination as appropriate since traffic shall be closed shortly before the Anthony interchange.
“From Old Toll Gate to Alapere, Ogudu, motorists cannot access the Third Mainland Bridge. They shall be diverted to Gbagada on Oworonshoki – Oshodi – Apapa Expressway to connect destination.
“From Ajah, motorists coming towards Ozumba Mbadiwe Road shall be diverted to Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase1.
“Motorists coming from Lekki through the Cable Bridge (Ikoyi – Lekki link Bridge) shall be diverted to Gerrard Road as Alexander and Bourdillon Roads are temporally closed to traffic.
From Bonny Camp Roundabout to Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, motorists shall be diverted to Kofo Abayomi Street through old Mr. Biggs.”
LASTMA also stated that “all adjoining streets and feeder roads leading to the dedicated route of the marathon shall be temporarily closed to traffic to ensure a hitch free exercise and to guarantee the safety and security of the athletes.”
According to LASTMA, the organisers of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon therefore seek the support, understanding and co-operation of the motoring public in adhering to the guidelines outlined above.
They also apologised for all inconveniences these closures and interruptions may cause their journeys.
However, LASTMA added that “traffic control and security personnel have been detailed to handle critical junctions and intersections on all the alternative routes so as to maintain law, order and sanity for the motorists.”
