Ukraine is set to resume exporting electricity to Europe after a six-month pause due to crippling Infrastructure from Russian missile attacks.
About 13 months ago, Russia invaded Ukraine and has since then launched many other attacks.
These attacks have affected Ukraine. Not only have they claimed many lives, but affected the country’s infrastructure.
Still, Ukraine continued to export electricity to Europe until October 2022.
In October, Russia started targeting attacks at Ukriane’s energy and the country could barely provide enough for Ukrainian customers.
As a result, Ukraine stopped exporting electricity to Europe six months ago.
However, after the six-month break, Ukraine is ready to start exporting electricity again, says Energy Minister German Galushchenko.
“The Ukrainian power grid had been functioning for almost two months without any restrictions on consumption and with a power reserve,” Mr. Galushchenko says.
He says repairs on the power grid have been a success.
Also, he says exporting the surplus electricity would provide additional financial resources for the reconstruction of the destroyed and damaged energy infrastructure.
The Agreement
According to the Minister, the export of a maximum of 400 megawatts to the European energy grid has been agreed upon.
However, the actual amount of electricity exported will depend on the needs of Ukrainian consumers, says Galushchenko.
For now, Ukrainian electricity consumers “unquestionably” remains the country’s priority.
