Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Parth (PDP) requested to inspect election materials used in the February 25 presidential election.
They had both lost to Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, but they want to contest the result in court.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Friday granted the request to inspect the materials used in the presidential election.
Atiku and Obi announced their plans to go to court at separate news conferences in Abuja on Thursday.
The panel of the appellate court granted the request after it heard two separate ex-parte applications brought by Atiku, Obi and their political parties.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tinubu, and APC were cited as Respondents in the matter.
The panel is led by Justice Joseph Ikyegh and they would also sit as the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

The candidates in their application maintained that the requested documents would aid their petition against the outcome of the presidential contest that was declared in favour of Tinubu.
