Tech giant Google is launching its own chatbot ‘Bard’ following the unexpected popularity of the AI chatbot ‘ChatGPT’.
The organisation says it will test the chatbot before rolling it out for public use in the coming weeks.
Google Bard is an AI chat tool powered by LaMDA which is set to serve as an “experimental conversational AI service”.
Bard would be using information from across the web to provide fresh and high-quality responses to questions.
Google CEO, Sundar Pichai in a blog said the chat tool “seeks to combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence, and creativity of our large language models”.
This announcement from Google is following speculations that Microsoft is interested in ChatGPT and is set to bring it to its search engine ‘Bing’.
ChatGPT was launched on November 30, 2022, by OpenAI. While it was free in the beginning, there are plans to monetise it.
As of December 4, 2022, ChatGPT was estimated to have over a million users already.
At its launch, many were skeptical about the chatbot while others were scared it would replace them and take their jobs.
ChatGPT can answer questions and carry out text requests using information from the internet. The bot is also able to generate speeches, songs, news articles, and essays.
Google boss, Pichai said Bard was developed to answer nuanced questions being asked using Google search.
“AI can be helpful in these moments, synthesizing insights for questions where there’s no one right answer,” he added.
