Multiple Grammy Awards winner, Angélique Kidjo, has said she is a Nigerian from Iseyin, a town in Oyo State.
The legendary singer, who was born in the Benin Republic, revealed this in a recent interview with Smooth FM 98.1 FM in Lagos State.
Kidjo stated that it was revealed to her by her mother, a choreographer and theatre director.
The 62-year-old entertainer and activist also claimed she has many relatives scattered across Nigeria whom she has yet to meet.

“My Mum told me that I am from Iseyin because when my grandfather’s great great great great grandfather returned from Brazil, they discovered their roots in Iseyin,” she explained.
“My mother’s family has always been from Nigeria.
“So we have families in Abeokuta, Ibadan, Lagos, and all over.
“I have cousins I haven’t seen a million years that I miss a lot.”
