Everton takeover: Former Man Utd and Chelsea CEO Peter Kenyon leading consortium in talks

Former Manchester United and Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon is heading a consortium in talks to buy Everton.

British businessman Kenyon, who is now a director of football consultancy firm, Opto Advisers, is reportedly fronting a group that includes US-based businessmen Maciek Kaminski and John Thornton.

Talks with Everton remain at an early stage. Kenyon was linked with a bid to buy Newcastle United in September 2019, before the club’s Saudi-led takeover last October.

Everton’s current owner Farhad Moshiri is reportedly open to external investment for the club’s new stadium, with the 67-year-old also not ruling out selling equity stakes in the Premier League side.

In March, Everton posted a loss of more than £100 million for the third successive year, revealing a £120.9 million deficit for the year ending June 2021. The club was in discussions to secure new financing after cancelling multiple sponsorship deals.
