Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has reiterated his call for a transition from cash-driven politics to leadership grounded in competence and integrity.
The former Anambra State governor made this known during a visit to Kaduna on Sunday, where he engaged with stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of his ongoing consultations across the country.
Sharing insights from the visit on his verified Facebook page, Obi described the meeting as both revealing and encouraging, offering him a clearer understanding of the state’s political atmosphere.
He noted that discussions with party members reflected a strong collective interest in advancing national development.
During the visit, Obi interacted with several prominent figures, including Dr. Ahmed Tijjani, a gubernatorial aspirant, and Lawal Adamu, who represents Kaduna Central.
According to him, their contributions highlighted a shared commitment to rebuilding the nation.
Obi characterised Kaduna as a pivotal state in Nigeria’s growth, recalling its historical significance as a hub of unity, commerce, agriculture, and industry.
He stressed that despite current challenges, the state still holds vast potential for economic and social progress.
He also underscored the importance of unity, warning that division continues to hinder the country’s advancement.
In his view, national cohesion remains essential for achieving peace and sustainable development.
Addressing the broader political landscape, Obi criticised the growing dominance of money in Nigerian politics.
He urged political actors to prioritise competence, strong character, and tangible performance over financial influence.
