Ruben Amorim has, while celebrating his 40th birthday, joked that being Manchester United boss has aged him 10 years in the space of two months.
The Portuguese coach agreed to succeed Erik ten Hag in November 2024, as he inherited the reins at a Premier League giant struggling for consistency.
Also, Amorim arrived in England making it clear that he would not be tinkering with a tactical blueprint that had served him well at Sporting.
He has found the going tough at times, suffering seven defeats through 17 games at the helm while making tough decisions on the likes of Marcus Rashford, and admits to already feeling considerably older than he actually is – with a notable birthday being taken in on January 27.
However, after being offered best wishes by BBC Sport, Amorim responded with: “It’s not 40, it’s 50.
“After two months at Manchester United, it’s 50!
“It’s a pleasure to spend my birthday here.
“You have a great country.
“I will enjoy more tomorrow with the win.”

However, the victory in question was United’s narrow 1-0 win away at Fulham. Said result was secured courtesy of a Lisandro Martinez goal 12 minutes from time, with United – who will be back in Europa League action against FCSB on Thursday – moving up to 12th in the Premier League table.
