The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has has disqualified Congo Nations Championship (CHAN). This decision was made by the CAF disciplinary board in response to a complaint filed by the Equatorial Guinea Football Federation.
The complaint centered on Congo’s use of an ineligible player, Mankou Nguembete Japhet Elo, in the qualifiers held last month.
Elo played for Congo in both legs of the qualifiers, prompting the Equatorial Guinea Football Federation to lodge a formal complaint.
As a result of the disciplinary board’s ruling, the Congolese Football Federation has been fined $10,000 for their actions.
With Congo’s disqualification, Equatorial Guinea will now join defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and Nigeria in Group D at CHAN 2024.
The tournament, scheduled to take place in August, will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
