Nigerian singer, Joseph Akinwale, better known as Joeboy, has responded to recent criticism of his music.
Some social media users are labelling it as “mid”.
The term is often used to describe something as mediocre or average.
However, this has been a recurring critique aimed at the artist.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Backstage Banter podcast, Joeboy firmly rejected the idea that his music or career could be considered anything less than remarkable.
Also, he pointed to his achievements as clear evidence of his success and determination in the music industry.
“There’s absolutely nothing ‘mid’ about my existence,” he asserted.
“The fact that I’ve managed to accomplish so much at such a young age while keeping my head on straight is far from average.”
The singer also touched on the mindset of his critics, suggesting their negativity might be a reflection of their own unhappiness.
“I honestly think that most people who criticise me in this way are not content with their own lives,” he said.
“If you’re truly happy, you wouldn’t feel the need to pick up your phone and attack someone else. And what does ‘mid’ even mean, really? It seems like one of those trendy buzzwords that people throw around without much thought.”
