Richarlison has explained his shirtless lap of honour at Everton, with the Tottenham forward seeing his Goodison Park antics branded “bizarre”.
The Brazil international forward stepped off the bench for Spurs during their 3-2 defeat on Merseyside, with Ange Postecoglou forced into changes at half-time after seeing his side head into the interval trailing by three goals.
Richarlison did get on the scoresheet, but was unable to rescue a point for his current employers.
At the final whistle, as Tottenham players and staff offered their apologies to the travelling support for another forgettable Premier League performance, Richarlison headed off on his own lap of honour.
That behaviour was considered by some to be quite odd, given the circumstances.
Richarlison did, however, take in 152 appearances for Everton between 2018 and 2022, scoring 53 goals, and was eager to make the most of his final outing at Goodison before the Toffees move into their impressive new stadium next season.
Richarlison posted on social media, after seeing his decision to stroll around an iconic venue by himself called into question:
“I feel very fulfilled for all the 83 times I’ve stepped onto this pitch.
“Where I played the most and scored the most goals in my entire career.
“Today, for the last time. Thank you, Goodison Park!”

While Spurs supporters would prefer to have seen Richarlison celebrating a victory in front of them, Everton fans have aired their respect for a player who has not forgotten what a productive spell on Merseyside did for his career.
