Swedish audio streaming and media service provider Spotify has released its latest report on the monthly earnings of African artistes on its platform.
The report reveals that Nigerian artistes dominate the top 10 list, with Wizkid emerging as the highest-paid African artiste.
According to the report, Nigerian artistes earned a staggering ₦25 billion in royalties from the platform in 2023 alone. This is an increase of 100% from 2022 and a remarkable 2,500% growth since 2017.
The surge in popularity of Nigerian music genres such as Highlife, Igbo Pop, and Fuji has also been notable, with listenership increasing by 224%, 303%, and 187% respectively over the past year.
Heading the top 10 list of highest-paid African artistes is Wizkid, who earned an impressive $1 million. Burna Boy follows with $782,148, while Tems takes the third spot with $660,210.
Other notable artistes on the list include Tyla with $607,804, Davido with $458,615, Asake with $451,553, Omah Lay earned $421,123 Ayra Starr $400,972 and Rema, $367,973 respectively.
