Singer Speed Darlington Achakpo, also known as Akpi, has been in detention, with allegation of cybercrimes hanging on his neck.
Now, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted him bail in the sum of ₦20 million with stringent conditions.
Also, the ruling was delivered on Wednesday by Justice Ekerete Akpan, following the singer’s plea of not guilty to a two-count charge of alleged cybercrime.
Justice Akpan, in his ruling, outlined specific conditions for the bail.
The singer is required to provide one surety in the same sum, who must meet the following criteria:
The surety must be a Level 10 civil servant residing in Abuja.
Also, the surety must submit an affidavit of means and surety’s address must be verified by the court registrar.
Furthermore, surety must either work with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) or be a federal government employee.
The surety is required to deposit their letters of appointment and most recent promotion letter.
Additionally, Justice Akpan ordered Speed Darlington to deposit his international passport with the court.
Also, both the defendant and the surety must also submit two recent passport photographs to the court registrar.
Pending the fulfilment of these bail conditions, the judge directed that Speed Darlington be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre.
The singer’s lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, had earlier pushed the bail application.

He emphasises his client’s willingness to comply with the court’s directives.
The case has been adjourned to March 18, 2025, for trial, during which the prosecution is expected to present its evidence against Speed Darlington.
