This strategy has come in very handy for the Lagos State Government as they move to avoid cases of stampede which has become an issue of great concern in the country recently.

Now, all groups intending to distribute gifts to vulnerable residents in Lagos State must seek clearance before proceeding with their acts.

Do not blame the state for this move.

you see, drastic times requires drastic measures and for the Lagos State Government, what played out in Ibadan and other parts of the country must not be allowed in Lagos.

According to the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, who announced this latest directive, the requirement was to avoid an incident of stampede as has been recorded in some parts of the country.

The directive was issued via a statement on Monday.

The Stampede

Omotoso stated that Lagos State Safety Commission would issue clearance if the organisers meet the requirements set by the government.

It read: “The Lagos State Government has observed with serious concern the stampede during philanthropic gestures of individuals and organizations in some parts of the country.

“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu sympathizes with families whose loved ones were involved in the stampede that led to loss of lives in some states.

“To prevent such occurrences in Lagos State, all individuals or groups that intend to distribute items to large gatherings of people are advised to seek clearance from the Lagos State Safety Commission, which is well-equipped to ensure that such events do not turn tragic.

“The agency has a partnership with security agencies to ensure crowd control at locations with large numbers of people.

“Individuals and groups can register their events and get clearance through the Safety Commission’s platform.”

Lagos State noted that any group who flouts these measures will surely face the legal consequences of its indiscretion.

“The Government has activated all its safety mechanisms, following a directive from Mr Governor who has also summoned a meeting of all safety agencies.

“Besides, Mr Governor has directed that the ongoing advocacy against fire and flooding, among others, should be strengthened,” he added.
