How is Christmas going in your area?
Forgive us, we do not mean to pry, however, recent events in the country spark nothing but curiosity.
Michael, a self-employed youth in the Bariga area of Lagos says this is the worst Christmas celebration he has ever witnessed in Nigeria.
He vividly recalls how the Christmas season was so much fun during Goodluck Jonathan’s regime.
“Chai, dis country don spoil,” he exclaimed as he boosted about eating chicken from the first day of December till the end of the new year during those times.
For David, a whine and alcohol dealer, his business is his major concern.
But guess what, this Christmas for David has not been as usual.
“I never close by 9:00 p.m. for Christmas before,” he said as he struggled to portray the seriousness of the issue.
“Today na 23, see as everywhere dry,” he added, pointing at the near-deserted street.
Indeed, previous years in the area usually comes with a great feel of celebration.
With the streets lit with beautiful lights to bring the feeling of the season close to everyone, Bariga always stands out during Xmas.
From the loud music banging from unseen speakers stationed in the roads to open gatherings of boys holding a bottle of whatever gives them their hit, the Christmas in Bariga promises a memorable experience for residents.
But not this year.
This year, “Joy no de for street” has become a anthem in the area.
Notably, Chickens seems very free this year.
They are not scared of death, after all, you can’t kill them if you can’t afford them.

The voices of frustration echoes from the streets, and trust us, it echoes very loud.
