Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, has reflected on the early stages of her career, admitting to a steep learning curve and initial naivety.
In an interview with Glamour Magazine Germany, the Essence hitmaker revealed that her primary focus when she started was simply to create good art, without fully understanding the complexities of the music industry.
“I don’t want to lie. I was very naive at the beginning of my career – I just wanted to make good art,” she shared.
Over time, she said, she had to develop strategies to navigate the music business in a healthy and sustainable way.
Tems also spoke about the strong support system that has been instrumental in keeping her grounded.
