Mariah Carey has achieved a new milestone with her iconic festive hit, All I Want for Christmas Is You. Spotify announced on Friday, December 13, 2024, that the track, released 30 years ago, is the first holiday song to surpass 2 billion streams on the platform.
“This is beyond incredible,” Carey said. “I’m honoured to have All I Want For Christmas Is You be the first holiday track on Spotify to reach 2 billion streams! I’m so grateful to all Spotify listeners around the world who’ve made the song part of their holiday tradition year after year.”
Spotify confirmed that the song is now the most-streamed holiday track in the U.S. and globally.
Over the past five years, its global streams have increased by 120%. Since the start of this holiday season, the track has seen an 860% surge in streams globally and a 1,100% increase in the U.S. since Nov. 1.
The Christmas classic has topped Spotify’s global charts on Christmas Day every year since 2016 and remains the most-streamed holiday song annually.
Additionally, the song became diamond-certified by the RIAA in 2021, making it the first holiday track in history to achieve this honour. All I Want for Christmas Is You also ranks among the best-selling singles of all time.
