Nigerian music sensation, Davido, has shared that American music icons Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj have a profound admiration for Africa and its cultural richness.
Also, he revealed their deep respect for the continent’s music and traditions during a recent interview with Hot 107.9 FM in Atlanta.
He highlighted how their collaborations with him reflected this appreciation.
Davido explained that both artistes prefer infusing Afrobeats into their projects with him, rather than adhering strictly to Western styles.
He cited his collaboration with Nicki Minaj on the track If It’s Okay as an example.
Furthermore, he emphasised that the rapper specifically requested a sound rich in African influences.
“She wanted the full African flavour on it,” Davido shared.
“Foreign artists are increasingly drawn to our musical styles, making collaborations with them more natural and exciting.”
He also recounted his experience recording Sensational with Chris Brown.
Also, he noted how the R&B star encouraged him to embrace his roots in the track.
“I was leaning towards a more American sound, but Chris insisted on including Afrobeats. He even asked me to sing in Pidgin,” Davido said.
Adding a personal touch, he mentioned that his dancers featured as video vixens in Sensational and even joined Chris Brown on tour.
