Farewell To Leadership: Delta State University Honours Outgoing Vice-Chancellor

Delta State University’s Governing Council celebrated the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andy Egwunyenga, for his transformative leadership.

The council’s commendation was offered through the Pro-Chancellor, Gen. Alexander Ogomudia (Rtd), during a special farewell meeting.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Gen. Alexander Ogomudia (Rtd), had gathered with colleagues to celebrate the achievements of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga.

The event, a Special Meeting of the Council, was an opportunity to acknowledge the profound impact Egwunyenga had made during his tenure.

As Ogomudia rose to speak, his tone was filled with admiration.

He recalled how the partnership between the Governing Council and the Vice-Chancellor had steered the university to remarkable heights.

“We enjoyed working with him,” Ogomudia shared, emphasising the collaborative spirit Egwunyenga brought to his role.

Under Egwunyenga’s leadership, the university experienced a transformation.

He worked seamlessly with the Senate and other academic and administrative units to create a thriving academic environment.

Together, they focused on improving the quality of education, enhancing staff and student welfare, and ensuring motivation.

Infrastructure across the campus blossomed, while a steady academic calendar kept students on track.

Perhaps most notably, Delta State University rose in global rankings, a testament to years of dedicated effort.

A Vision For The Future

As the gathering neared its end, Ogomudia turned to the future.

He urged council members and the university community to build on the foundation Egwunyenga had laid.

“Justice, inclusiveness, and accountability have become part of our culture under his leadership,” he noted.

With these values firmly in place, Ogomudia expressed optimism for what lies ahead.

The farewell was not just a celebration of past successes but a call to embrace the future with confidence.
