A 19-year-old man in Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa has been apprehended by the state Police Command for killing a newborn.

This development was brought to public attention by the Adamawa Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, in Yola, on Saturday.

SP Nguroje gave a detailed account of how the incident unfolded.

He stated that personnel of the command “detained the suspect on Nov. 8 (Friday) over the alleged murder of the three-day-old baby boy”.

According to him, the mother of the three-day-old baby was allegedly the girlfriend of the suspect.

In fact, it was the baby’s mother who reported the unfortunate incident to the police.

“The suspect was accused by the complainant, who is his girlfriend, of murdering the three-day-old baby after she gave birth to it,” he said.

The Investigation

Nguroje explained that preliminary investigation showed that the suspect impregnated the complainant.

She had put to birth and called the suspect afterwards to come for his baby.

The suspect visited the complainant’s house during the night hours, but he was not there to carry the baby, he had other plans.

He sent the mother on an errand and carried the baby.

The suspect allegedly killed the baby and buried the corpse in the Girpata area of Mubi.

According to Nguroje, the Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, has ordered the case to be transferred.

He wants the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the case for a discreet investigation.
