Germany shook off a sluggish start to dominate Greece 76-63 and secure a spot in the semi-finals of the Paris Olympic men’s basketball tournament.
This victory makes them the first team to advance to the final four.
Franz Wagner led Germany with 18 points, while Dennis Schroeder contributed 13 points, as the World Cup winners improved their record to 4-0.
They now await either Canada or France in the semi-finals, marking their first-ever Olympic final four appearance.
Wagner expressed his excitement, saying, “It means a lot to be in the semi-finals for the first time everybody in the team knows that we have a special group.”
He credited past players like Dirk Nowitzki for inspiring their success.
Despite Giannis Antetokounmpo’s game-high 22 points for Greece, they fell short. Greece had only one win in group play and barely made it to the quarter-finals as a best third-place finisher.
Germany initially trailed 10-2 in the first quarter-final at the Bercy Arena but rallied after Schroeder’s three-pointer in the second half.
They took control, leading 59-52 in the final quarter, and ultimately clinched the win.
The basketball tournament has moved to Paris for the knockout round, featuring four quarter-finals, including a highly anticipated matchup between France and Canada, followed by the US, led by LeBron James, facing Brazil.
