The #EndBadGovernance protest, which started on August 1, 2024, rocked many parts of the country.
Lagos, Abuja, Jos, Benin, Kaduna, Kano amongst other states, joined the nationwide protests.
However, it is quite surprising that the Igbos in Eastern states and other states did not participate in the #EndBadGovernance protest.
Nigerians have raised concerns as the Igbos, who are always active in issues of national interest, were found wanting this time.
The reasons are not far-fetched, as they have been continuously intimidated and victimized in the past, especially during the 2023 presidential election.
The Igbos, especially those who supported the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, bore the brunt of anger from opposition parties.
During the 2023 elections, some of the Igbos in Lagos were threatened and prevented from voting by thugs.
In addition, video clips circulating the internet during the election showed eastern voters in Lagos being asked to vote for a particular party or go back to their states.
Also, some Igbo traders in Lagos island lost their establishments to fire incidents.
As a result, the Igbos treaded with caution this time and disclosed that they would not be participating in the protest for fear of being intimidated again.
