Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has announced that Monday, July 8, 2024, will be a work-free day in honor of the new Islamic calendar year, Hijrah 1446AH.
Commissioner for Information Prince Dotun Oyelade announced the decision in a press release on July 5, 2024.
The state government acknowledges the significance of the Hijrah in the lives of the Muslim community.
The Commissioner explained that the Hijrah marks the Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD, a pivotal event in Islamic history.
“As a gesture of respect and solidarity with the Muslim community, we have declared Monday, July 8, 2024, a work-free day in the state,” the statement read.
“Residents are encouraged to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in the state and the country.”
“The government also calls on everyone to reflect on the teachings of the Hijrah, pray for the well-being of the state and the nation, and come together in a spirit of solidarity and brotherhood.”
“The Hijrah is a time for reflection, prayer, and community spirit.”
Let us come together on this day to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in our state and our nation,” the statement concluded.
