Angela Bassett has received an honorary honourary Oscar at the 14th annual Governors Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday for her remarkable contributions to Hollywood.
Regina King, her co-star in “227,” “Boyz N the Hood,” and “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” introduced her.
In her acceptance speech, Bassett expressed gratitude for being recognised and acknowledged the Black women who have received Oscars.
She highlighted her role as the second Black actress to receive an honourary Academy Award after Cicely Tyson.
Bassett also paid homage to Hattie McDaniel, the first Black person to win an Oscar in 1940.
