Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 43-year old man for stealing the placenta of a newborn baby.

The suspect Joshua Abraham, was arrested following a report made by one Raliha Zakara, the baby’s grandmother at Ibafo police division.

iBrandTV gathered that the suspect deceitfully took the placenta from the hospital on the pretence of going to bury it.

However trouble started when Raliha Zakara discovered that Abraham instead of burying the placenta buried a dead rat.

Narrating the incident, Zakara, said: “The suspect, Abraham my close neighbour, came to the hospital where my daughter delivered a baby and pretended to be the father of the new baby.

“Upon arrival, he demanded for the placenta from the nurse on duty and it was given to him.

“On getting the placenta, he took it away on the pretence that he was going to bury it. But when I got to the hospital and was informed that the suspect has taken away the placenta, I quickly confronted him, but he told me that he has buried the placenta.

“When I insisted that he should take me to where he buried it, I discovered that he has hidden the placenta but buried a dead rat.”

It was learned that sequel to the report, the DPO Ibafo division SP Abiodun Ayinde detailed his detectives to the scene where the suspect was arrested.

Confirming the arrest, the spokesman Ogun State Police Command DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that the Police discovered that the suspect was once been arrested for defrauding a police officer and a pastor of huge sum of money under the pretence of procuring Canadian visa for them and the case is been prosecuted in court.

He has since taken the detectives to where he hid the placenta and it has been recovered.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson has directed that a thorough investigation should be carried out and that the suspect should be charged to court as soon as possible.
