So what? the United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will temporarily close on Monday, 17 February 2025, in observance of Presidents’ Day.
Does that mean that there is a public holiday?
Indeed, a statement posted on X on Sunday by the diplomatic mission confirmed the closure.
The public was assured that normal operations would resume the following day.
“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, February 17, 2025, in observance of Presidents’ Day.
We will resume normal operations on Tuesday, 18 February 2025,” the statement read.

After this message, speculations that there was a public holiday in Nigeria began to swell.

The fact that many schools have started their midterm break only made matters worse.
Meanwhile, some people who were dressed for work immediately removed their office clothes in excitement.
It is no doubt that in the U.S., Presidents’ Day is observed annually on the third Monday of February to honour past and present leaders of the nation.
This special day is a federal holiday in the United States and not in Nigeria.
