10 Maritime Workers Kidnapped Along Bonny–Port Harcourt Waterway

Ten maritime travellers are feared to have been abducted by sea pirates along the Bonny–Port Harcourt waterway.

The victims were said to have been travelling between Bonny and Port Harcourt when their boat was attacked by their abductors.

Confirming the incident to Channels TV, the district Chairman of MARITIME Workers Union of Nigeria Rivers State district, Israel Pepple, said it is true.

“It’s not a rumour, it is real. 10 persons have been kidnapped this morning coming from Bonny to Port Harcourt. We’ve reported to the security agencies”

When contacted, the police public relations officer said the police were aware of the abduction.

Furthermore, he said that the state Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu had mandated the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olugbenga Adepoju and the DPO’s in that area to make sure the victims regain their freedom as soon as possible.
