Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong has marked a decade since making his debut for Nigeria’s senior national team.
The 31-year-old defender made his first appearance on 13 June 2015, playing the full 90 minutes in an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Chad.
Since then, he has become a consistent figure in the team’s defence.
Troost-Ekong has played in three AFCON tournaments (2019, 2021, and 2023) and the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
He was one of Nigeria’s standout players at the 2023 AFCON, where he captained the team to a second-place finish and scored three goals.
His performance earned him the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
The experienced centre-back also helped Nigeria secure a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics as part of the U-23 team led by coach Samson Siasia.
Reflecting on the milestone, Troost-Ekong expressed gratitude for the journey and honoured the late Stephen Keshi, who handed him his Super Eagles debut.
He wrote, “10 years ago I played my first game for the Super Eagles. Thank you Coach Stephen Keshi for the opportunity. Rest in peace.”
