If your heart skipped a beat reading “UTME results are out,” you’re not alone. Whether you walked out of that exam hall grinning or grimacing, it’s time to face the music.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the 2025 UTME results—and the numbers are stirring up some serious national conversations.
UTME 2025: The Results Are In… And They’re Raising Eyebrows
Brace yourself: out of nearly 2 million candidates (1,955,069 to be precise), more than 1.5 million scored below 200. That’s a staggering 75%!
In case you’re wondering, 200 is often considered the magic number for many tertiary institutions in Nigeria. So yeah, three-quarters of test-takers didn’t quite make the cut.
Want to hear something wilder? Less than 1% of candidates scored above 300. That’s right—if you hit that number, go ahead and treat yourself to something fancy (but maybe wait till you’re actually admitted).
What About The Whiz Kids?
JAMB also opened the doors to 40,247 underage candidates—think of them as the Doogie Howsers of Nigeria—who were allowed to take the test.
Sadly, only 467 of them (about 1.16%) aced it enough to earn what JAMB called “exceptional performance.” These child prodigies will undergo three more assessments to truly earn their bragging rights.
In the end, only 420,415 candidates managed to score above 200. Meaning, University admissions this year are going to be fiercely competitive.

Even if you get your score via SMS, you still need to head to the JAMB portal to print a copy—especially if you plan to apply for admission or feel the urge to frame it for posterity.
So… What’s Next?
Once you’ve seen your score, it’s time to face the next step: university applications. If your score is high, congrats—you’re in a great position!
If it’s lower than expected, don’t lose hope. Consider alternative schools, change of course options, or even take a strategic gap year.
The road to success isn’t always straight—it’s about how well you navigate the curves.
What Matters
Whether you aced it or got a reality check, the UTME is just one milestone on your academic journey.
What matters is what you do next. And hey, if all else fails—you can always come back and conquer it next year (third time’s the charm, right?).
