Out of 60,000 registrants as of June 2025, healthcare migration to the UK remains strong despite tightening immigration rules.
Furthermore, the UK hosts 30% of diaspora Nigerians on the portal, making it the top destination for professionals seeking career growth overseas.
After nurses, medical doctors represent 15% of registrants, while engineers and IT professionals each account for 10%.
Additionally, academics (8%), entrepreneurs (7%), and legal experts (5%) contribute to the mix of professions.

Moreover, Nigerian professionals establish themselves in countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, France, India, China, Kenya, Ethiopia, Senegal, Malaysia, and Qatar, reflecting a broad global footprint.
However, this migration trend has led the UK government to implement measures aimed at reducing net migration, which directly affects nurses and care workers.
NiDCOM’s Strategic Role
Importantly, NiDCOM designed its portal to do more than collect data; it actively shapes diaspora engagement and national development.
By connecting Nigerians abroad with the homeland, the platform fosters collaboration, investment, and policy-making to harness the diaspora’s potential for Nigeria’s growth.
Consequently, the prominence of Nigerian nurses in the UK highlights the vital role they play in this ongoing story of migration and contribution.
