Colin Gray faces four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children.
GBI Director Chris Hosey stated that the charges stem from Gray’s decision to let his son have the firearm.
AP reports that authorities have charged Colt Gray with four counts of felony murder and will try him as an adult.
They have scheduled his arraignment for Friday morning via video in Barrow County.
Investigators say Gray used a semiautomatic rifle in the attack at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia.
The motive and how Gray acquired the weapon remain unclear.
