England defeated Germany to lift the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 tournament trophy for the first time, on Sunday evening at the Wembley stadium.
England’s women national football team defeated arch-rivals and eight-time champions Germany in a fiercely contested game which in 2-1.
This is England’s first ever European major trophy in the sport of football since 1966, when they lifted the World Cup.
The match was won for England by substitute Chloe Kelly who scored the winner in extra-time at the packed stadium that harbored over 87,000 fans after Germany’s Lina Magull had set up a nervous ending by restoring parity, cancelling Ella Toone’s opener in normal time.
England star player Beth Mead was named Player of the Tournament and Golden Boot winner after England lifted the trophy.
Meanwhile the organisers of the tournament have raked in over £87 million from ticket sale for the match.
The final of the Euro 2022 Women’s Tournament was watched at the Wembley stadium in England, by 87,000 fans who bought their tickets online. The price of the ticket to watch the final was sold for over £1,000.
