Arsenal will miss its defender Takehiro Tomiyasu for the rest of the season, as they struggle to stay at the top of the Premier League table.

The defender who had successful knee surgery will be off for the rest of the season, the club have confirmed.

The Japan international lasted just nine minutes of Europa League defeat to Sporting Lisbon at the Emirates before being replaced by Ben White.

The Gunners released a statement, confirming the injury sustained will keep him out for the rest of the season.

It read: “Following his substitution during last Europa League match, subsequent assessments have confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu sustained a significant injury to his right knee.”
