Tom Cruise has officially unveiled the title for the eighth “Mission: Impossible” film as “The Final Reckoning.” Initially expected as a follow-up to 2023’s “Dead Reckoning Part One,” the new installment is scheduled to hit theatres on May 23, 2025, after delays due to the pandemic and the recent SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike.
Alongside a poster reveal, Cruise posted on social media, “Every choice has led to this,” highlighting the high stakes in the latest trailer.
The trailer shows Cruise’s Ethan Hunt engaged in intense action sequences scuba diving near a wrecked submarine, flying and falling from a biplane, and, of course, plenty of running.
Fans also see Angela Bassett returning as CIA Director Erika Sloane, a role she introduced in “Mission: Impossible – Fallout.”
Following the events of “Dead Reckoning,” where Hunt contends with a rogue AI called The Entity, “The Final Reckoning” picks up as Hunt seeks the hidden AI aboard an abandoned Russian submarine, facing off once more against his adversary, Gabriel (played by Esai Morales).
The film promises another high-stakes mission as Ethan Hunt races to prevent a global catastrophe.
