Former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC for the 2023 presidential election.

Tinubu defeated 13 other contenders to emerge the flag bearer of the party at the National Convention of the party in Abuja on Wednesday.

Before the voting process, Godswill Akpabio, the former governor of Akwa Ibom State; Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the former governor of Ogun State; Kayode Fayemi, the current governor of Ekiti State; and Dimeji Bankole, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, all stepped down to make way for the former Lagos State governor, a major contender in the party’s presidential race.

Senator Akpabio explained that he made the decision to step down for the APC chieftain in the best interests of the party and the country, and urged his supporters to rally behind him.
