
While the state of emergency in Rivers State continues, there is need for the state to have a budget and run as it should. Now, President Bola Tinubu has taken the responsibility of submitting the state’s budget.
A ₦1.481 trillion budget proposal for 2025 was submitted to the National Assembly by the Nigerian president.
President Bola Tinubu formally asked the National Assembly to approve a budget of ₦1.481 trillion for Rivers State for 2025.
During Thursday’s plenary session, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, read Tinubu’s letter aloud to the lawmakers, conveying the president’s request.

Political Crisis Disrupts Processes
Meanwhile, this significant budget proposal arrives amid a deepening political crisis in Rivers State, which has disrupted the usual legislative and budgetary proceedings.
Basically, the turmoil developed from a prolonged conflict between the current governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
As the situation worsened, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers and appointed a sole Administrator to manage the state’s affairs, signalling the federal government’s active intervention to restore order and stability.
That decision whipped up divergent views along the lines of political affiliations.
