Nollywood’s psychological thriller, The Weekend, has secured 16 nominations at the 20th African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).
This exciting news was announced at a ceremony held at the Sheraton Hotel in Lagos.
With this recognition, ‘The Weekend’ marks a significant milestone for Trino Motion Pictures.
This showcases the growing influence of African cinema and enhances Nollywood’s reputation on the global stage.
In a heartfelt social media post, the team behind The Weekend expressed their gratitude.
“We just earned 16 AMAA nominations—a first in the 20-year history of the AMAA. I’m overwhelmed with emotions right now.
“We’re so thankful for this recognition and want to congratulate the entire team!”
“The Weekend has received critical acclaim at several prestigious international film festivals”.
Furthermore, it stands out as the only Nollywood film to premiere this year at renowned events like Tribeca, Cordillera, and SLASH Film Festivals.
The film is also set to feature at the much-anticipated 24th Screamfest Horror Film Festival in Los Angeles from October 8-17, 2024.
Also, the prestigious 68th BFI London Film Festival (LFF), in partnership with American Express, from October 9-20, 2024.

Meanwhile, producer Uche Okocha shared his excitement about the AMAA nominations in a press statement.
