Media personality and former Big Brother Naija housemate, Tacha Akide, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Nigerian content creator Asherkine and a female fan named Becky.
This was after a video of their interaction went viral online.
In the now-trending clip, Asherkine is seen approaching Becky.
He asked if she would like to go on a date and accompany him for shopping.
The exchange was light-hearted and well-received by many until the internet backlash began.
Shortly after the video gained traction, a man claiming to be Becky’s boyfriend of two years, identified as Kennie, surfaced online.
He shared what he alleged were WhatsApp screenshots of conversations with Becky.
He accused her of denying their relationship publicly to pursue monetary benefits from Asherkine.
Kennie also posted a photo which many users now believe to be photoshopped to support his claims, further fuelling online outrage.
Critics on Twitter Nigeria quickly jumped on the trend, calling out Becky for allegedly prioritising luxury over loyalty.
Reacting to the drama, Tacha took to Instagram to drag online trolls.
Tacha likened them to the “wicked aunties and uncles” Nigerian parents used to warn about.
“They’re no longer in the village, they’re all on Twitter Nigeria,” she said.
“You people will twist any narrative just to shame a woman for existing. Una no dey tire?”
Becky’s Defence
Her comments came as a strong defence of Becky, who soon released a video statement debunking all the rumours.
“I’m not in a relationship, and I have never been,” Becky declared.
“All those WhatsApp chats are fake. That is not even my name, and I don’t speak like the person texting in those screenshots.”
To further prove her point, Becky posted a video exposing a Snapchat user who she claimed photoshopped himself into her photo.
He attempted to mislead the public into believing they were a couple.
The incident has since divided social media, with many praising Becky for speaking up, while others continue to dissect the timeline of events.
