Nigerian singer and songwriter Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has appealed to fans to stop referring to her daughter, Adejare, as ‘Duduke”.
In a recent interview with media personality, VJ Adams, Simi clarified the origin of the popular nickname and expressed her discomfort with its continued use.
The term “Duduke” gained popularity after Simi released a heartfelt song of the same title in 2020, while she was pregnant with her first child with fellow musician Adekunle Gold.
The song resonated with many listeners and became an anthem for expectant mothers across Nigeria.
Following the birth of their daughter, Adejare, in May 2020, fans began affectionately calling the child “Duduke” in reference to the song.
However, Simi has now explained that “Duduke” was never intended to be a name.
According to her, it is simply a symbolic representation of the rhythm of her heartbeat for her unborn child.
“People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything,” she said.
She went on to say: “Had it meant something good, I would have allowed it. But it’s just a beat – duduke, duduke. That was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum”.

“I get it, it’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react,” she added.
